Teachers and school counselors have the same goal: help their students succeed. This may seem obvious. However, many times teachers are not clear about what the counselor does and conversely, counselors may not have the experience of running classes, day in and day out, from bell to bell, if they have no experience as a teacher. Teachers can have a tremendous impact on a student’s success by understanding how the school counselor can support the student. Teachers need to know what services are available. Likewise, counselors can also have a tremendous impact on the student’s success by understanding the teacher’s needs in what it takes to run their classes. This mutually beneficial understanding will energize the school.
